Walmart’s Price Cutting Makes It More Competitive With Amazon

Studies by Deutsche Bank conducted two weeks apart found that Amazon.com’s prices on 65 identical items went from 8.3 percent lower than Walmart’s to five percent lower, a clear indication of Walmart’s “renewed focus on offering cheaper merchandise” and its stronger emphasis on e-commerce as it struggles with business stagnation in the U.S. Walmart has introduced a smartphone app (Savings Catcher) that compares its prices to other mass retailers and refunds the differences on a gift card. The Deutsche Bank study found that Target’s prices were 7.9 percent higher than Amazon's, making it the most expensive of the big retailers.
