Tesco Adopts If This Then That Technology; Plans To Open Up Online Platform To Third-Party Developers

April 26, 2016: 12:00 AM EST
UK retailer Tesco adopted the If This Then That technology to allow customers to install automatic grocery orders on Tesco.com. IFTTT allows customers to connect two separate platforms, such as a Tesco.com account and a Nike+ running application. Also, Tesco launched a new API, which gives third-party developers expanded access to the company’s backend website. Developed through Tesco Labs, the retailer’s innovation unit, Tesco’s innovations hint at adopting a more open future, even hinting that customers may later be allowed to create and modify baskets or access records of previous purchases on third-party apps and services.
