Mobile Commerce Helps Drive Growth In Europe's Online Retail Sales

Online retail sales in Europe are forecast to increase 100 percent from €165 billion in 2013 to €330 billion in 2019, according to Mintel. Data from the market research firm revealed online retail sales in 2014 alone are expected to grow 17 percent to €193 billion, or about 7 percent of Europe's total retail sales for the period. M-commerce is helping drive growth in online retail sales, with 41 percent of internet users in the UK using their smartphones to buy online; 44 percent in Italy; France, 28 percent; Germany, 33 percent; and Spain, 40 percent. Also, in the UK, 35 percent of internet users shop online using their tablets; France and Germany, 23 percent; Spain, 26 percent; and Italy, 32 percent.
